Zaffan, 12, is the wildest of her circle of friends, but when she becomes the first of them to hit puberty her feral energy takes on a disconcerting new dimension as she discovers a terrifying secret about her body. Ostracised by her community, Zaffan fights back, learning that to be free she must embrace the body she feared, emerging as a proud, strong woman. A fascinating allegory that combines horror film literacy with distinctive elements of south Asian folklore and superstition.

Hull Independent Cinema is working towards creating more accessibility for our audiences. HIC have decided to present all our films with descriptive subtitles, where available.

Descriptive subtitles refer to subtitles intended for people who are deaf or hard of hearing. They are also known as HOH (Hard of Hearing) subtitles or SDH (Subtitles for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing). These subtitles are a transcription rather than just a translation; in addition to reproducing dialogue, they aim to describe additional non-dialogue sounds available to a hearing audience, e.g. “(sighs)” or “(door creaks)” and song lyrics. In our experience, guests do not find the subtitles distracting, especially as the majority of our films are subtitled foreign language films.

Programme Details
The venue is open all day, so why not come along early to grab a drink and a snack? The programme run time includes an allowance for introductions and up to three trailers. While we will endeavour to accommodate latecomers, this may not always be possible. Please note that we reserve the right to refuse entry, without a refund, to anyone arriving after the advertised start time.

Please note the pedestrian entrance to Princes Quay is either via the Quayside entrance (next to Nandos) or via the footpath from Waterhouse Lane / Bonus Arena. Both entrances off Carr Lane are closed after 6pm. The car park entrance remains unaffected.

Ticket Terms and Conditions
If any tickets remain unsold they can be purchased on the door on the night of the screening, but we strongly advise buying in advance. Advance tickets must be purchased; we cannot reserve tickets. Tickets are non-refundable and non-exchangeable. If you purchase a member or CEA Companion ticket, your membership card or a CEA card MUST be presented along with your ticket on the door when you come to a film. If you do not have your card we reserve the right to charge the non-discount rate for your ticket.
