THE BEAST
Dir Jason Yu | 2023 | South Korea | 95 min | 15 | Korean

Soo-jin becomes worried about her husband Hyun-su's sleeping habits when what she thinks is just some light sleep-talking and snoring becomes something else when a neighbour tells her about the strange noises coming from their apartment at night. As Hyun-su’s nighttime habits grow more erratic – and grotesque – the divide between his day and night selves becomes increasingly challenging for Soo-jin to deal with, and she takes desperate measures to do so in a thrilling, blackly comic body horror.

Starring Kim Gook Hee, Yoon Kyung-ho, Lee Sun-kyun

till the last moment." Alissa Wilkinson, Vox

"A phenomenal debut, a movie that rises to an incredible climax that should have people talking." Brian Tallerico, RogerEbert.com

ACCESSIBILITY
This film will be presented with Descriptive Subtitles. Please read on for more information.

Hull Independent Cinema is working towards creating more accessibility for our audiences. HIC have decided to present all our films with descriptive subtitles, where available.

Descriptive subtitles refer to subtitles intended for people who are deaf or hard of hearing. They are also known as HOH (Hard of Hearing) subtitles or SDH (Subtitles for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing). These subtitles are a transcription rather than a just translation; in addition to reproducing dialogue, they aim to describe additional non-dialogue sounds available to a hearing audience, e.g. “(sighs)” or “(door creaks)” and song lyrics. In our experience, guests do not find the subtitles distracting, especially as the majority of our films are subtitled foreign language films.

AGE RATING
SLEEP is rated 15. Under 15s will not be admitted. For more information, please see the film's page on the BBFC website
