LA CHIMERA
Dir Alice Rohrwacher | 2023 | Italy, France, Switzerland | 131 min | 15 | Italian, English

Everyone has their own Chimera, something they try to achieve but never manage to find. For a band of archaeological robbers, it means the dream of easy wealth. For Arthur, it looks like the woman he lost. To find her, he goes inside the earth in search of the door to the afterlife of which myths speak. In an adventurous journey between the living and the dead, between forests and cities, between celebrations and solitudes, the intertwined destinies of these characters unfold.

Starring Josh O'Connor, Carol Duarte, Vincenzo Nemolato

REVIEWS
"La Chimera is a film that utterly occupies its own fictional space; it expresses its eccentric romance in
its own fluent movie dialect." ★★★★★ Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian

"Rohrwacher uses magical realism to craft a film that’s just as playful as it is heartbreaking."
Jourdain Searles, RogerEbert.com

"If you’re in the mood for something original and woozy and riotous and wonderfully special, you will
be able to fill your boots." Deborah Ross, The Spectator

ACCESSIBILITY
This film will be presented with Descriptive Subtitles. Please read on for more information.

Hull Independent Cinema is working towards creating more accessibility for our audiences. HIC have decided to present all our films with descriptive subtitles, where available.

Descriptive subtitles refer to subtitles intended for people who are deaf or hard of hearing. They are also known as HOH (Hard of Hearing) subtitles or SDH (Subtitles for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing). These subtitles are a transcription rather than a just translation; in addition to reproducing dialogue, they aim to describe additional non-dialogue sounds available to a hearing audience, e.g. “(sighs)” or “(door creaks)” and song lyrics. In our experience, guests do not find the subtitles distracting, especially as the majority of our films are subtitled foreign language films.

AGE RATING
LA CHIMERA is rated 15. Under 15s will not be admitted. For more information, please see the film's page on the BBFC website
